    • The Challenge

      IRIS is the UK’s market leading provider of business critical software and services to the UK accountancy and payroll sectors. Over 45,000 companies rely on IRIS every day to run their businesses. IRIS is a highly profitable business with private equity investment from Hg Capital. The incoming CFO wanted a realistic assessment of capability in his Finance team and was looking for areas of improvement.

    • The Solution

      Everymind were initially appointed to undertake a diagnostic of the Finance function looking at people, processes and systems. This lead to help with strengthening the Finance team through the secondment of an Associate to conduct business planning and analysis. It also entailed help with the appointment of a permanent Head of Finance.

    • The Result

      David was invited to join the IRIS board as a Non-Executive Director and Chairman of the Audit Committee. He has also been asked to step in as Acting CFO while a permanent new hire is sought. Having seen the services offered by Everymind, the private equity house has already approached Everymind for support in another software business based in Europe.

    • The Challenge

      Equniti is the UK’s leading share registration business. Employing 1,700 staff, the business has an enviable blue chip corporate client base of 700 companies (including 55% of the FTSE 100). They service some 24 million investor and shareholder accounts.

      Advent’s acquisition in 2007 marked a step-change for Equiniti, with the board and private equity backers focused on unlocking sizable amounts of working capital.

    • The Solution

      David and Carolyn worked directly with the CFO identifying where significant working capital was tied up in the business. Success within the largest subsidiary led to the project being rolled out across the entire group. Everymind then worked on-site for a period of months to create a project plan and delivering tangible improvements in working capital, especially through more efficient invoicing and tighter cash collection.

    • The Challenge

      ITN has been an Everymind client for over four years. ITN CEO John Hardie arrived from Disney in July 2009 and quickly recognised he needed more from ITN’s Finance function.

    • The Solution

      John Hardie appointed Everymind to strengthen the Finance function, including the CFO position itself. Progress was excellent. A new three year strategic plan was devised and approved. The Finance team was reorganised and strengthened with new hires. David continues to provide specialist support to the new CFO during busy times on transactions.

    • The Challenge

      Aegis Media had grown rapidly and successfully through a series of global acquisitions. That led to a 900 person finance function in many geographies, operating in various ways.

    • The Solution

      The CFO recognised Carolyn's previous expert experience transforming Finance at Reuters from a similar geographic structure into a Global Shared Service Centre in Bangalore. Carolyn was asked to work directly for the CFO to assess the opportunity to streamline Finance and how to make it happen. Work involved an initial diagnostic of the current state of Finance people, processes and systems, recommendations for a future state, the set up of an overall Steering Group and the appointment of a senior Finance Transformation Programme Director. Plus the establishment of an offshore Finance centre in Bangalore.

    • The Challenge

      One of the top 10 private companies in the world and a household name in showers and bathrooms had embarked on the set up and transition to a European Shared Service centre. Progress was slow and painful. Processes were deteriorating rather than improving. Year end was looming and Corporate HQ feared audit issues.

    • The Solution

      Faced with limited bandwidth and resistance from local units, the Divisional CFO hired Everymind to provide project management and expert. Carolyn provided urgent hands-on help, with Associates. External support was able to break down resistance and put the project back on track. Carolyn hired staff, re-energised the existing team, put in place standardised processes (P2P, O2C & R2R) and established controls to ensure all balance sheet accounts were reconciled pre year-end. After providing short term fixes, she went on to improve processes and effectively manage the ESSC for the European FD, ahead of a permanent hire.

    • The Result

    • The Challenge

      iD Experential, a highly successful and rapidly growing experiential marketing agency, had out grown its incumbent Financial Controller who had decided to move on.

    • The Solution

      Carolyn was brought in by the CEO to oversee the Finance function on a part time basis. Her prime objectives were to get the business in shape for year end; focus on short term management of cash and working capital; and support the CEO with the appointment of a permanent Finance Director.

    • The Result

      In a three month period, working on average two days per week, Carolyn was able to deliver material improvements in cash and working capital. She worked with the CEO to recruit and successfully bring on board a permanent CFO. She re-focused the Finance team and improved communications with all parts of the business.

    • The Challenge

      Following an investment by Octopus, it quickly became clear that the very capable CFO was stretched too thinly. He was struggling to run the business with the CEO and affect change in parallel. Octopus asked Everymind to work with the CFO to accelerate improvements and ensure that Octopus had the right visibility at Board-level of progress.

    • The Solution

      David and Carolyn worked with the CFO to deliver a two week diagnostic of the Finance function. This involved an assessment of the Finance team and recommendations for changing the structure of the team. It also involved a review of the existing monthly management reporting timetable, identification of road blocks and process inefficiencies and a plan to deliver monthly reporting in line with Octopus' requirements. The accelerated timetable was adhered to the very next month.

      This private care homes group was looking to convert from UK GAAP to IFRS under extremely tight time pressure to satisfy the requirements of a US investor. Without the converted financial results there would be no deal.

    • The Solution

      The CFO called on Everymind to assemble a specialist team who could support his own internal Finance team. Carolyn lead a team of four Associates, all of whom had specialist IFRS conversion experience. They had all been there and done it before at global companies including Reuters and the BBC.

    • The Result

      CFO, Peter Hill, felt Everymind offered a pragmatic and cost effective solution for his business.
